Perfume: The "P" in Peace

Perfume enhances our senses.  Not just smell - but also the sense of being.  Freedom.  And it just makes sense...  It's a subject which I have spoken about since I have been old enough to think and how it shapes so much of what we do and feel is so significant.   Airport sprees are especially a highlight as it means testing new fragrances and deciding which one I want next.  Finding the one and   drowning yourself in the deepness of the bottle and the journey it takes you on is an exciting part of the trip.  One of the main factors for me is the memory that you create with just a smell.  When you use a perfume at a specific time or place, it helps store that memory and combines the scent with that experience - this is especially why I prefer to go on a perfume hunt when I am travelling!   Being on holiday means that I get to relax and think about the perfume (which sticks to my travel hoodie and lingers in the hotel room for the week) and essentially, that scent becomes affiliated

Scent-sational

Perfume.  It is a topic which I hold very, very close to my heart.  We could say that it is an addiction, and lucky for me, I have a husband who feeds that addiction with extra TLC. Well - why so serious?  Because it all started when I was a young teenager and I had bought my first Cacharel: Amor Amor from Duty Free on the way to a family summer holiday.  I never forget going back to school that September, and feeling like quite possibly, the coolest Year 9 any school has seen.  It was that day when I realised how much 3 words could mean to me: You. Smell. Amazing.  Since then I have made it my mission to train my senses because to smell amazing is to feel amazing; and here I am today with a perfume collection of around 40 bottles and counting.                       Oud:  Its not for everyone but it is my most favourite ingredient in fragrances.  It is a type of wood which comes through a fungal infection produced on tropical trees which eventually causes it to rot.  The infected tree

Winter Wear: Seasonal Skin Food

It is no secret that we all want good skin.  Age, gender or even climate is no exception to that rule so undoubtedly the first thing we can expect to do is jump on Google to find out which cream is the best and why.   I would like to start off by talking about what little care I showed towards good skincare.  In all honesty, I used to go for the most cost effective option of a range in which I believed to be a good enough brand, and would check on my cheeks to see how they're doing and made sure they felt smooth... Now what is "good" and how do you determine what is and isn't a good brand?  Price tag?  Reviews?  Word of mouth?  All seem pretty fair to me but what I have really come to realise is that if something isn't good for your skin type then it may not necessarily be good at all.  Our skin is like the most delicate piece of clothing we wear and given how much exposure to pollution and harmful rays it has throughout the day, there has to be maintenance.  Just

Autumn in the Desert: My trip to Dubai

More often than not, I find myself complaining about the weather - it is always just too cold.  This year, however, I decided that I would spend a cold October (although some Londoners may argue that it has been a warm one so far - I beg to differ), somewhere not so cold; and one place which automatically comes to mind is ever-so-perfect Dubai. My trip consisted of many things from walking around The Dubai Mall, tasting Arabic coffee at various stands; to watching the water dance of the famous fountain show with a view of the world's tallest building and of course eating lots!  Zahr El Laymoun was a personal favourite.  A Lebanese infusion with a modern twist, the portions were plentiful and the presentation was incredible.  We chose to sit outside as we wanted to enjoy the warm breeze of the Dubai sunset along with the first show of the evening (which starts at 18:00, and goes on for the duration of each track every half hour until midnight) There was a general Autumnal f

Christmas in Amsterdam

Hey everybody!  For the very first time, I decided that a getaway for Christmas would be a fabulous idea because apparently I didn't have enough excuses to travel, anyway!  It didn't take me too long to decide that I wanted to go to Amsterdam as I had never been before ( considering its a 45 minute plane journey - a lot shorter than it takes a lot of us to commute from one end of London to the other! ) I found Amsterdam to be very pretty.  Very calm.  No hustle and bustle and very picturesque - so perfect for those who are passionate about photography!  I did a lot of walking around, exploring; going down one street and ending up in a completely different neighbourhood because I don't like planning and if you're a spontaneous one too, Amsterdam may be the place for you! There are a lot of cute little buildings, great history and so much art to take in, in this adorable city!  There is a lot more to it than the name and what it is actually known for.  I didn't vi

Huda Beauty: Does the Faux Filter Foundation really add filter?

I have really tried to love this product.  I'd consider myself to be a Huda-ist (not sure this word exists but I think it should!) and so try and purchase every product which I convince myself to be magical, as soon as it is launched. Faux Filter Foundation The Faux Filter Foundation was no exception.  I bought, I tried... I never liked.  First of all, it is far too thick and creamy.  Unlike most foundations, it literally does what it says on the box - it adds a filter to your face without a caked - on look however; flawlessness - debatable.  I never really use more than a pump of foundation anyway, and especially after watching her very honest tutorials and blog posts, I was glad that I didn't have to change this rule.  I use just half a pump and even this is plenty.   Complexion Perfection Now, you're probably thinking "if this product is so great, what is the problem?"  Well, for those who have not yet tried it, I can tell you that the issue

The Venetian Diaries

Those who know me know very well that I love to explore.  New places, new flavours, new fragrances.  Because I am a believer of all new things; fresh things, opening doors to positivity.  Leaving the older stuff in the past, moving onto better ones.  The same generally applies to my travel theory, too, because I think that when I see new places I gain a newer side to me and this is generally the case. Venice was just perfect.  Picture perfect.  The gondoliers serenading whilst they soar through the canals, the narrowest alleyways and of course the ice cream.  Seriously is there anything Italians do wrong?! The warm and friendly people of Italy have never failed to impress me.  Coming from a Turkish background I pay a lot of attention to hospitality, and being greeted with a warm welcome, wherever I went was just the icing on the cake for me. Ice cream is a massive part of my life and Italian Gelato just adds happiness to that.  The excitement of having a late lunch/din
