Christmas in Amsterdam

Hey everybody!  For the very first time, I decided that a getaway for Christmas would be a fabulous idea because apparently I didn't have enough excuses to travel, anyway!  It didn't take me too long to decide that I wanted to go to Amsterdam as I had never been before (considering its a 45 minute plane journey - a lot shorter than it takes a lot of us to commute from one end of London to the other!)

I found Amsterdam to be very pretty.  Very calm.  No hustle and bustle and very picturesque - so perfect for those who are passionate about photography!  I did a lot of walking around, exploring; going down one street and ending up in a completely different neighbourhood because I don't like planning and if you're a spontaneous one too, Amsterdam may be the place for you!

There are a lot of cute little buildings, great history and so much art to take in, in this adorable city!  There is a lot more to it than the name and what it is actually known for.  I didn't visit any museums but I did take the Lovers Canal Cruise which was absolutely beautiful (you don't need a lover to take part in this FYI!)  The scenery and serenity of the canals and historic buildings are breathtaking - just the same way the aggressive cyclists who consider themselves to be welcome in pedestrianised areas take your breath - which I did find to be super cool and something easy to adapt to! - I found myself looking out for bikes as opposed to cars whilst crossing the roads.

I was fortunate enough to catch a few Christmas markets although I did think that the Dutch had nothing on Germans where Christmas markets are concerned.  All stores were open on Christmas day and although I was slightly concerned that I would be spending Christmas day walking alone through the streets of Amsterdam, I was pleasantly surprised at how little was done to celebrate the festive period!  Restaurants, the main Christmas market, department stores and many more were as welcoming as the Dutch; so I loved every moment in this friendly city.  Be sure to indulge in Bitterballen (if you thought Maccy D's' mozzarella sticks were good, you will be highly impressed by this cheese and mushroom substitute) followed by my personal favourite, Stroopwafel - simply divine.

Here are some of the fun things I have chosen to share!  Check them out :)

The Power of Rejection

When was the last time you did something without wondering 'what if?', or worrying about the outcome? Now I find this to be a bit of a problem in our society, and want to get to the bottom of it. I say it's a problem, because I see that a lot of people of all ages, holding back in doing what could change a lot in their lives and decisions.  I sometimes feel like rejection or being turned away in whatever I do is such an obstacle that I need to express the negative effect this may have on the lives of so many of us. In order to overcome this obstacle, the first question I ask myself is 'so what?'. This is key, because when you start answering your own questions, it's a lot simpler to picture why 'rejection' or an answer which isn't that of your expectations isn't actually an obstacle.  Stating facts or presenting opinions where due is a part of our nature, and the human race is one of the most confusing among all. The point is, you are ne...

Bitter Sweet Berlin

Three whole months without a single post.  Without anything of interest to scribble... Or type, should I say?..  They most certainly were not any old months where I simply wasn't doing or accomplishing anything; in fact I was pretty much getting my life together, making huge decisions.  Or just huge moves.  To Germany. What better way of restarting my good old writing habits than to update you all on my current location!  Hurrah, I finally made it here.  After several visits here and sleepless nights of um'ing and ah'ing, wondering why I cant find a job in Berlin, I was offered an opportunity to work as a customer solutions agent... Speaking English and Turkish only, of course.  My journey was not a smooth one to say the least, but settling in, moving in with my lovely flat mate and finally booking my evening German lessons I can say that I'm a lot more comfortable here, in Berlin. A lot of people did try and stop me when I was in the decision making...
